There Better Be Cranberries in the Store

Darn. I have to get some cranberries in order to finish off my experiment tomorrow. Last time's supply ran out and I have to go get more. Actually, MY DAD has to go get more because I will be visiting someone tonight, so he will do the grocery. He already went to several grocery stores and found no cranberries Q.Q Now he is gonna go to Super Store and see if there's any. Ms Jay told me that there should be cranberries cuz they are all-year-round fruit...I hope she's right.

Busy Schedule Next Week

Gah next week I am gonna be so busy! I have the socials map due on Tuesday, St. John's debate tournament on Saturday---and I have to finish my science fair experiment via the display! I better finish the whole thing before next next Tuesday. Last year I ended up finishing the display for the entire night. I only got 1 hour of sleep that day D: So I better not procrastinate this year!

Snow+ Rain

This morning it was snowing and raining at the same time. A lot of the snow stayed for a while but eventually they all melted and turned into mush. Oh yeah and also today on Google is like the something anniverasy of the biggest snowflake! It was like 15 inches wide. :O Me astonisha. It's so weird, because the west side of Vancouver had more snow than the east. Me curiousa.

Hmm

Today actually went by very fast. Actually, the whole week went by pretty fast! I am glad we don't have TOO MANY projects...but there is still the science project! Nuu. Me No Gusta. Now I have to leave for tutor. When I come back, I am gonna finish up my history and harmony homework. Heheheheh. Sorry for short blog today, but I gotta run. Have to go to my student's house..CYA!

BC SPCA!

Today my company group went to the BCSPCA to donate our money (fundraised during the business project). Leslie's dad gave us a ride. Thank u Mr. Zhang and Leslie! We got there and donated the money, and I asked for a receipt with all our names printed on it. That took a while, so we went to the shelter to look at the animals. The doggies and the kitties and the bunnies are soooooo cute! Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures of them. But they were SO ADORABLE! I wanted to adopt one so much! Especially the kitties. There was one Siamese cat who was adopted by this little girl. That kitty was soooooo cute. I think it really really liked people and when we came to pet it the kitty meowed and rubbed the cage and rolled over <3 soooooo CUTE! :P There were two bunnies of which Carina fell in love with. They were so cute too! Really fluffy and quiet. The two bunnies liked to huddle together and hug each other. ZOOMMMMG. Words cannot describe the cuteness!!!!!! All the animals were soooo cute! Gahahhahahahah! I felt really happy today! Later we got our receipt and went to Broadway for pizza and Starbucks. Yay! Happy day!

Busy Again!

I am gonna be so busy again tonight! I have some science worksheets to complete and an ENGLISH TEST. Nu. Me no gusta tests. And I also have to start doing some research on my debate topic. The tournament is next Saturday. :| I have to search up the address for the closest animal shelter available cuz we are donating our money tomorrow. Gah! So much work! And there's also science fair...I still have to do two trials and I plan to do them together, and then I can work on my poster. Why is life getting busier and busier?! I miss mah old life Q.Q

Le Rush

Today for photography we had to do this rushy and fun and scary project. Tony is my partner and we had to take pictures of objects that start from A-Z in three categories: nouns, adjectives and verbs.We took a lot of pictures as fast as possible and then uploaded them. It was such  a pain to label all of them. But I managed to finish it off as fast as possible after school (right after I got home). I hope we will be the first ones that get it in. Because if we don't we will never get full marks D: nnuuuuuuuu MUST GET FULL MARK. ME WANT MARKS. RAWR.

Busy

My group is planning to donate our money to the BCSPCA on Thursday afterschool. But now we have to find the closest location near us and then plan our route. Hehhehehe. The business project is gonna be due next Monday so we need to get our donation receipt before that. We figured out that Thursday is the day everyone can go. It would be nice if we can get some certificates with our names for the donation!

So Happy

I am so happy today because I found a way to let one of my student (who used to hate piano a lot ) enjoy piano better! Before she had two pianos, but her mom didn't put the two pianos together. Today I went to her house and her moms put the two pianos together in the piano room! Excellent. So I listened to my student playing solo and then we both played the same parts on the two pianos so that I could control her speed, etc. She thought it was really fun and she wanted me to do the same thing again next time I tutor her. It's nice to find solution to problems!

Fruits

I asked a lot of people whether they've seen or tasted some of my hometown's local tropical fruits before-----and I was so surprised that a lot of people didn't know! Well well, I've decided to post some info on these fruits:

There are many English names for this fruit: wax apple, love apple, java apple, royal apple, bellfruit, Jamaican apple, water apple, mountain apple, cloud apple, wax jambu, rose apple, and bell fruit.

They taste absolutely AMAZING. We have a tree in our yard back in Hainan. Sometimes we even took some flowers to sniff because the fat sepals of the flowers smell so fruity just like the fruit!

This is a jackfruit! Funny name, eh? It looks sorta like a durian...but the taste is very different. Jackfruit tastes really really sweet and juicy, unlike durian which is kinda mushy. The thorns on a jackfruit are actually not that prickly. Oh, and when you eat a jackfruit, it is best to soak the fruit in salt-water before you eat it, because the freshly cut jackfruit can produce a sticky substance which can stick to your finger. If you get that substance on your hand, you usually clean it with cooking oil.

These are magosteens. They have purple shells and really juicy flesh (white). Don't eat the flesh if it has yellow thingys in it. That means the fruit might be bad. But anyways, really delicious!

These are Rambutans. They have red shells with hair-like fuzzy thingys, and firm juicy flesh. One of my favorite tropic fruits. The shells may be kinda hard to open sometimes. You have to squeeze it between your fingers to open it so you can eat the fruit.

This is MIRACLE FRUIT! Yep that's the name for the fruit. It has white flesh. If you eat one and then eat a lemon, the lemon will turn sweet! This fruit can turn sour things into sweet things! Really cool eh?

I haven't found the English name for these fruits yet, but in Chinese they are called "Egg fruit". The flesh tastes like egg yolk (quite gross in my opinion, so don't try it!)

These are called wampees. They taste sour and sweet (I guess more sour than sweet). One of my mom's favorite fruits XD

These are called sugar apples! They taste amazing! The flesh is white with many seeds. Really juicy and sweet. But easy to squish as well! You can't store them for too long!

These are the fruits from a STRAWBERRY TREE. Funny name, eh? My neighbor back in China has one in his yard and he would let us take some fruits from the tree when they are ripe :P Taste really good, and each fruit is about the size of a blueberry.

These are naseberries. They aren't exactly one of my favorites...they taste pretty okay, but in my opinion the texture is a bit like corn starch. Has brown sugar taste :p

And I am pretty sure you've seen/heard of other tropical fruits such as coconut, starfruit, dragonfruit, passion fruit, etc. But the ones above aren't as well-known as the others. Hhehehehe. Hope you enjoyed today's word/picture blog!

I got my science test back and it wasn't bad at all. I thought I would suck but I actually got a 13/15! 86.6666666666% Yush. Har har. I didn't really study for the test so that wasn't bad! And for PE I was finally able to get upside-down on the rings! So proud, because usually I don't have the strength to pull myself up. But hey-----I did it today! I still need to do some work on the balance beams. I am scared of depth. Hahaha. I am not scared of height, but scared of depth (how Alex interprets it, because height would be looking up but I am actually scared of looking down)

Anyways, the sad thing is I don't get to enjoy the weekend even though my piano exam is over. I still have tutor to do and theory homework. I am planning to finish my science fair experiment next week and just start putting the board together. Gah I have so much planning to do!

Relieved

Today I was sooo joyful! I was so relieved because I finished my piano exam and pre-ib exam. I was finally able to spend the entire afternoon after school to watch TV! Hehehheeh. But...I have to go back to my normal schedule tomorrow with all the tutoring and stuff. Oh well. Better enjoy today as much as I can before tomorrow comes!

Today!

Today was a super busy day for moi! First, I had to miss three classes because of my piano exam. It went okay, although I could've done it better. But anyways, not bad for my first piano exam in Canada! My last piano exam was when I was 10----and that was in China, and everything was different. But I am sure I will do better in ARCT! I already know which study to choose for ARCT. I can just reuse the study I played for the Chinese grade 9 piano exam. It's actually ARCT level! I also used Arabesque 1 (Debussy) for my grade 10 piano as well but I had already played that piece for my Chinese grade 9 piano exam :)

And then I rushed back for the Pre-IB exam. There were a lot of people there. I don't know why---but I wasn't nervous or anything! The test wasn't that hard. One of the topics for writing was to design a device for blind people which is both helpful and economically friendly. We were supposed to write about a new invention. I wrote about the guiding stick---but made from recycled materials! That way it'd be cheaper and more environmentally friendly! I guess that counts as an invention!

Anyways, so much had happened today and I am kinda exhausted. I still have to prepare for the science test which I had missed and a French test. Bye nao!

Make Up Blog

Sorry I missed my blog yesterday! I had to sleep early after coming back from my piano lesson because I wanted to rest so I could have enough energy for today's piano exam and Pre-Ib exam. But then, I will talk about the exams in my next blog. Anyways, about yesterday-----I actually don't remember that much! Oh wait, I check out Maus II and it was AWESOME. It was so sad that Vladek died at the end (cuz of old age) but the story is just soooo good! I couldn't put it down. And then for debate club we did some brainstorming for the regional's topics. Gah. I have to do some research soon. I remember last time at the UBC tournament Jason and I just procrastinated the night before and prepared for two topics. I actually stayed up pretty late that night. I feel I should start researching now...instead of last-minute procrastination. :)

MOAR AND MOAR SNOW

Lolololoz guess wut----it snowed again today! Woot! This morning when I was walking to school tiny snowflakes were falling. By the time the first period ended there was a lot of snowing going on outside school. I wanted to make a snowman :) But after school there was little snow left. Me is sad. I hope we can get like a hugggggeeeee snow so we can actually have some fun with the snow. Hheheheheh.

Btw, the movie we watched about Annie Leibovitz was pretty cool! I've seen the picture with John Lennon and his wife before----but I NEVER KNEW ANNIE LEIBOVITZ took that shot! I think all her pictures portrays the character's emotions and personalities. She went into a lot of fields and did awesome photography on different variety of subjects. She also focused on different points as well, such as human structure, etc. I enjoyed the movie...although there were, some, uh, awkward pictures o.o

MOAR SNOW

I woke up early this morning again and the sun was shining so bright it hurt my eyes. I opened my window and saw the whole city covered in a blanket of snow. I quickly took some pictures of the snow before it melted! I is very smart. Gonna upload them later on my photography website :p We got snow twice in a row! I hope it snows again tomorrow. Actually, I kinda knew we were gonna have snow today because yesterday I saw this huge clump of dark cloud. Snow cloud. Oui oui.

SNOW

Hehhe it snowed today! Well, it actually happened yesterday night and I knew it because I slept very late yesterday night and the sky was incredibly pink. Lolz. Anyways, I woke up really early this morning as well and the snow wasn't melting yet. Then around noon-ish some started to melt. But if you go really west to the shady areas the snow didn't melt. It was really cold today! First snow of the year (2012). Not bad, not bad at all.

Buskerfest Poster

Yesterday night I stayed up very late to make two posters for Buskerfest. One poster is a guy and the other one is a girl. For the guy character I modeled it after Tony cuz his hair is very easy to draw. The girl character was modeled after Celinna. I pick people who were easy to draw :O) Hehheheheheh. Anyways we made a lot of photocopies of them and just distributed them out to people to color and put them up and take care of them. I think that's enough posters for Buskerfest. We will have more than 60 posters if everyone finish theirs and we still got a lot uncolored ones in Mr. Olson's room. Hehhehehe.

Ugh

I thought I was done with my science fair experiment. But I wasn't. What's worse, I may have to come up with a back-up plan. Anyways, I thought I was being smart to do all three trials at once, but Ms. Jay told me to repeat it again two more times and that what I did was only three replicates. Uggggggggh. It's so annoying! I would have to stay after school two more times and beat more vegetable and fruits into pulps. Nuuuuuuu. And my results lack accuracy. It was really hard to get an accurate measurement of gas. Now I am gonna look for some other experiments. Phew. Good thing I tried my experiment early. Or else I would be so screwed if I procratinated and get a bad result.

Yay

One of my friend just ordered 4 Chinese New Year cards! She phoned me this afternoon and asked if I can make her four Chinese New Year cards because she couldn't find any in the store. I have sold some cards to her before while doing our business project. But anyways, it's good that I can show off my art talent again! Woot Hoot!

Science Fair Experiment

I finally got sometime to do my science fair today! It was such a PAIN to drag all my materials to the school...and it turns out I only needed a bag of cranberries, yeast and my blender (that was all I had time for!) Well anyways, April, Vivian and Carina helped me with the experiement and clean up. Thank you guys! It was so fun when we blend the cranberry into smoothie. Aileen was so tempted to drink it. Lolz. Then April helped me pour them into flasks. Then we poured some yeast in and put ballons over the flask. It's suppose to produce CO2 and ethanol. I was kinda scared at that time because I didn't believe it would actually work. But then------after school when I checked it actually worked! The balloons got inflated! Yesssss now I just need to do a couple more trials.

Preparing

I am so glad we have lab time tomorrow for our science fair project! Before I was a bit worried about my science experiment because I can only do them after the 18th (my piano exam)! But then thank god we have some time tomorrow. I just need to prepare the materials needed for my experiment. I am bringing cranberries, bananas, celery, cauliflower and snow peas. I am also bringing my blender and some ballons. I am not worried about the containers because I can probably borrow them from the lab. I really do hope my experiment work. Oh wait, let's not forget to bring the yeast. Oui oui. All these stuff is gonna be heavy. :/

Noes

I just finished reading some other ppl's blogs and it turns out that most of us are just finishing up our Pre-IB application stuff. I am finishing up mine too. I just need to edit my biography and find my grade 8 report cards and other things I need to attach with the application. There's a section on the application where you have to fill in this year's most recent grade. I wonder if we are doing that, because we didn't get grades on our report card. I asked Lillian and she said we didn't have to put the grades in but she's putting hers down anyways. I better go check with the IB office tomorrow again just to make sure. Hheheheheh.

Good News & Bad News

Good News: finally finished watching Life in a Day with Alex! What an awesome video! The cow's nose at the end was a bit freaky... well anyways, Woot hoot! I will do a blog about that on my website sometime next week.

Bad News: I went to my theory class taking the bus. But heck, I forgot my cameras! Darrrrrrrrnnnrnrnrnnrnrn. Now I will never be able to finish the busing adventure project until next week when I take my theory lessons again! Nuuuuuuuuuuuu and I can't go during week days cuz every day I have to rush back home before 3:30 to practice piano cuz I can only practice til 6 because of annoying neighbor who complains a lot and because my examination is like the wednesday after the next one! UHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHHGHGHG.

Sigh

I feel so depressed these days. There are so many things to do...I sorta feel hopeless. I can't believe I am actually saying this, but I feel extremely exhausted these days. Not good. Not good at all. And I also hate the weekends. I mean, I am suppose to like the weekends, right? But weekends are actually my busiest time of the week----so I no look forward to it. Ehhhhhhhhhh D:

Graphic Design Artist?

I am signing up to be one of the graphic designers for Buskerfest! I get to work with mon friend Cartridge Jam, aka Carina. Lolz. We started on some small posters today! I drew the weirdest things that came to my mind. I also created some drawings on the white board. Please look. Aren't they just beautiful? I certainly enjoyed drawing them. Hehehehheheh. Later on we are gonna move onto something bigger like a bigger poster and such.

Gak!

I can't believe we are gonna have a science fair update next week! Noooooooooo!!!!!! I barely have any time to start on my project! I was planning to start it after the 18th (because that's my piano exam date and I kinda wanna use my spare time to practice and such) and the weekends will be very tight for me because of tutoring! There's so much pressure going on these days! And then guess what: on February the 4th I will have a debate tournament at St. John's; on Feb. 5th I will have a piano recital and then science fair is due on the 7th! Ghahahahahhahahahahk!

There there, 1st Day of School After Break

Arrhrhrhhrhhghggh, it's the 1st day of school after winter break today! Day 1...so...

Everything was pretty much normal. But I have noticed that a lot of people grew a bit horizontally during the break. Hhahahahaha. Math was okay and we had a seating plan. I got to sit beside Jennica and La Petite Viv :) For French my team, along with two other teams, won chocolate! We were doing this memorization game and it was really fun. Socials we did the great Canadian Geography Challenge and boy it was hard! Way harder than last year's. Tony got the highest score in the class! Good job Tony!

After school I had debate club and it was a really short meeting. We just confirmed ppl who are going to the St. John Regional's. I am still with my old partner Jason. This time we have one prepared topic so that's good. But the other rounds are all impromptu! Gah. Impromptu topics are really really hard for me.

Gahahahhaha. Not bad for the 1st day of school after winter break!

New Year Meet-Up

Today I met up with my friend Maia. I haven't visited her in a very long time and I missed her a lot. I figured out that I probably won't have time to hang out with her again until spring break! She lives in North Vancouver... and my weekend schedules are always full on regular school weeks. I put off tutoring for today so I could hang out with her.

Her dog, Shadow, was so excited when we got to her house! She was singing (howling) a lot. Most of Maia's pets were fine: the tarantula Rosie, dog Shadow, and snake Adrienne. Her hamster Itch died so she got two new rodent pets (I forgot the name of the animal) She also got a venus fly trap and she named the plant Venus. Hahhaha. Anyways, we did lots of craft, and I helped her make this fancy ribbon hair clip thingy. We had cheese pizza for lunch. I stayed 'til 3 in the afternoon. It has been a very fun day. She is a really good friend and I wish I can have more free time to go visit her again soon!

New Yearrrrrrrrr

OHHHHH YEAHHHHHHH NEW YEAR IS HEARRRR HAPPY BIRTHDAY NEW YEAR OF 2012! Yes.

I used to spend New Year's Eve at one of my friend's house. But for the past few weeks I've been so busy and exhausted that I didn't make it to the party yesterday night. Oh well. There's always next year! But I am not too sure...because life will just get busier and busier for me! Perhaps the next New Year's Eve I will still be so busy that I won't make it to the party! Nuuuuuuuuuz. But I will try my best!
