Full Metal Alchemist

Today as soon as I got to the library, I picked out five Full Metal Alchemist Mangas. I really like them. In fact, they are my favorite comic books. The story is set in a time in the early 1900s, in a fictional world where alchemy really existed. Two brothers, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric tried to bring their dead mother back to life, so they practiced a forbidden ritual in alchemy------the human transmutation. After the ritual went wrong, Edward, the older brother lost his right arm, while his brother Alphonse lost his whole body. In order to save his brother's soul, Edward sacrificed his left leg and drew a transmutation circle on a suit of armour, so that his brother's soul could stay in this world. Edward's childhood friend Winry made Ed artificial limbs also known as auto-mail. The two brothers decided to go on a quest, to find the Philosopher's Stone which they believed could turn them back to normal. To gain more access to top secret information, Edward became a state alchemist at the age of 12. He was the youngest state alchemist ever, a genius. When he found out about homunculus------result of a human transmutation, he was thrilled and suspicious, which led him to the ultimate creator of the Homunculus. The whole story was filled with tension, excitement, and also the expression of the dark side of humanity. I think that the author Hiromu Arakawa did a great job on writing this manga. It's kinda sad to see this pair of young brothers going through all the suffering, but I am also impressed by their courage and their determinations. This graphic novel is a must-read.
